A dual-core CPU platform usually requires about 30 units of 22μF capacitors but industry players are now using 10μF MLCC units in place of 22μF MLCC units due to a tight supply of 22μF MLCCs. The production of 10μF MLCCs is comparatively easier than that of 22μF MLCCs, commented industry sources.

Japanese vendors, are not worried about any potential supply problems, saying that additional capacity should be available from July. Leading players including Maurata, TDK and Taiyo Yuden, are all expanding their capacity by 20-30%, the sources noted.
